Article:   JÉSUS, LE FILS ENVOYÉ DU PÈRE / JESUS, SON OF THE FATHER SENT TO THE WORLD.

Authors:  YVES-MARIE BLANCHARD.

Abstract:  Jesus, the Son Sent by the Father. The Christological project of the forth Gospel is quite clear. It consists of stating repeatedly the fact that Christ is the Son of God, on one hand, and, on the other hand, of the declared purpose of the author to make the readers believe it, which means more than accepting it rationally. What is particular about Saint John, as compared to the other evangelists, is the fact that he does not hide the divine nature of Christ. Several characters in the Gospel confess, from the very beginning of the redemptive work of the Lord, that He is the Son of God. Nathanael, John the Baptist, the Samaritan woman, the apostle Peter and others recognize His special connection with the Father. His kingly dignity and His quality as the Son of God and the One sent by God are especially emphasized, the last two qualities being transmitted to the apostles. Words such as Go to my brothers and say to them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God”. (John 20, 17) or As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you. (John 20, 21) show that the apostles became what Christ was: sons and sent by God.

Keywords: Jesus, the Son Sent, Gospel of John, messianic, apostles, continuity.
